Stuff I sent out for the button swap

Although I mailed things on Friday, April 13, my swap partner didn't receive things until yesterday! ugh...

Anyway, here's what I mailed out to Karen from Simply June:

*a dozen buttons, most of them from my Grandma's buttons (she cut them off of every piece of clothing when she was done with the clothes)
*2 mason-dixon ballband washcloths
*a little Finding Nemo craft kit for her son
*some vintage-looking fabric from our old curtains (!)
*an assortment of funky yarn remnants
*some Milwaukee postcards

This was SO much fun! And lots less stress than some of the knitting swaps! (stress that I put on myself, of course)

Vintage Button Swap--I got my package!

I came home to a wonderful package from my Vintage Button Swap partner, Karen from Simply June!

I got (clockwise from top left):
dark chocolate bar from Trader Joe's
12 very cool buttons (M. and I love the green one in the middle that looks like a flattened cube)
Vintage-y kerchief
4 beautiful hand-made felted and embroidered buttons* (OK, I will HAVE to knit myself a cardigan to put them on!)
Cute little tin with neat-o magnets
3 cute notecard/namecards with my kids' initials on them

Vintage Button Swap

While surfing through some crafty-type blogs, I somehow stumbled onto a blog that is doing a Vintage Button Swap. I had to ask exactly what defines "vintage" (I was told that pre-70's qualifies), and then I signed up!

When I was little, my grandma (my dad's mom) had this cool pedal-powered sewing machine. In three of the drawers of the sewing machine she had buttons that she'd cut off of every piece of clothing (I think) that she'd ever worn. And I loved to play with those buttons! I'd sort them by color or size or any other fascinating characteristic.

And so when my grandma died, I made my request for her buttons. I've been adding to it a bit since that time, and I hope that my kids (and grandkids) have as much fun looking at all the different buttons in the collection.

I went through that collection and chose 12 buttons that I had duplicates for (I didn't want to give away anything truly one-of-a-kind) and then I signed up!
